Isaiah 47:1–15; 48:1–22 – The fall of Babylon and the Lord's deliverance of Israel despite their rebelliousness.
Here is your daily Come Follow Me devotional for Ammon Hasson.
I searched the BYU Religious Studies Center (rsc.byu.edu) and Joseph Smith Papers (josephsmithpapers.org) for a scholarly source related to today's reading, but found no articles specifically dedicated to an in-depth analysis of Isaiah 47-48 that fit as well as a direct biblical commentary. Therefore, I've selected a relevant scholarly article from an academic journal that focuses on the destruction of Babylon.
Gary V. Smith's article, "The Destruction Of Babylon In Isaiah 46–47," discusses how Isaiah vividly portrays Babylon's humiliation and downfall. The prophet describes Babylon as a once-royal woman stripped of her status, forced into servitude, and losing her kingdom and allies. This judgment comes because of Babylon's oppression, excessive pride, wickedness, love of pleasure, and false sense of security, as well as her reliance on sorcery and astrology, which prove powerless against divine decree. Babylon's destruction is sudden and complete, signifying God's vengeance against a city that showed no mercy, even as an instrument of His chastisement.

While a direct, clean URL from a Church-affiliated site for this specific journal article was not found, the content can be verified through academic databases. For our purposes, the Google Search result confirms the article details and summary.)
How does understanding Babylon's downfall as a consequence of her pride and cruelty, despite being used by God, inform our view of personal accountability for actions, even when seemingly part of a larger divine plan?
Considering the Lord's clear and powerful control over nations, as demonstrated in Babylon's fall and Israel's deliverance despite their rebelliousness, what specific worry or burden might you consciously release to Him today, trusting in His perfect control and power to carry you?
