Daily Devotional: Isaiah 24–25

The prophet Isaiah often looked beyond the immediate circumstances of his day to envision grand future events. In Isaiah 24–25, he shifts from pronouncing judgments on specific nations to a broader, panoramic view of the earth's desolation due to universal transgression, followed by the ultimate triumph and praise of God by the righteous in the last days. This section is a poetic depiction of the Lord's judgments upon the wicked and His glorious salvation for those who trust in Him. It highlights that the earth will be "empty, and waste," its inhabitants scattered and consumed by fire because they have "transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant" (Isaiah 24:1, 5). Yet, amidst this destruction, Isaiah also foresees a time when God will "swallow up death in victory" and wipe away tears from all faces, leading the righteous to declare, "Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us" (Isaiah 25:8–9).
