Today's Come Follow Me devotional invites us to explore the profound prophecies found in Isaiah 9–11, which beautifully intertwine foretellings of the Messiah's birth, His righteous reign, and the glorious gathering of Israel.
In these chapters, Isaiah addresses the challenges faced by ancient Israel and Judah, who were often embroiled in conflict and susceptible to foreign powers like Assyria. Isaiah 9 begins by contrasting the spiritual darkness prevalent in parts of Israel with the "great light" that would shine through the coming of the Messiah, identifying Him with titles such as "Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace". Chapter 10 shifts to explain that the Lord would use Assyria as an instrument to chastise Israel for their wickedness and pride, yet also prophesies of Assyria's ultimate downfall due to its own arrogance.
