Context for Our Study:
The book of Psalms is a revered collection of poetic hymns, prayers, and expressions of praise, foundational to ancient Israelite worship. While many psalms are attributed to King David, others are penned by figures like the sons of Korah. These sacred writings offer a window into the souls of God's people, revealing their emotions, anxieties, and their path to peace through Him. Psalm 40 is a messianic psalm attributed to David, prophesying of the Messiah who would come to preach righteousness and declare salvation. It also reflects David's personal journey of patiently waiting for the Lord, being delivered from deep distress, and finding delight in doing God's will. Psalm 46, written by the sons of Korah, powerfully declares God as our "refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," offering reassurance that even amidst the most tumultuous events, God is in our midst. It concludes with the profound invitation to "be still, and know that I am God".
